A pair of tealight holders made from upcycled wine bottles, each set on a base carved by hand from mkongo wood. Taa is Swahili for light.
They’re 6.5 cm tall and 7.5 cm across, low enough to see over on a laid table. Use them on either side of a serving dish, on a windowsill or on a bathroom shelf.
Each holder is a short section cut from a wine bottle. The bottles are collected on Zanzibar, then sorted by colour, washed and disinfected at the workshop before the women score and separate the glass with heat and cold and polish the edge until it’s smooth.
The base is shaped by hand from mkongo so the glass sits level. Every holder keeps the colour of its own bottle, so the two in a pair may not match exactly.
The workshop uses solar power, collects rainwater and is a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organisation.

Let the holder cool before moving or cleaning it. Lift out the used tealight cup and remove any wax with hot water and a cloth. Keep the wooden base dry. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Everything we sell is made by hand, so colour, pattern, size, and shape vary a little from piece to piece. That’s a normal part of the craft.
